Behind every successful Responder is an effective Control Team – could that be you?
The Control Team is the backbone of Tayside 4×4 Response operations, ensuring that requests for assistance are received, managed, and coordinated efficiently. Our control function is divided into two key roles: Call Taker and Dispatcher.
As a Call Taker, you will be the first point of contact for requests from organisations within the Local Resilience Partnership, as well as other agencies and organisations we support. You will gather essential information and accurately record requests using our dispatch system.
Once a request has been logged, the Dispatcher takes over, assessing the requirements and allocating tasks to the most suitable Responder or team. Dispatchers maintain oversight of ongoing operations, monitor resource availability, and help ensure that volunteers remain safe while carrying out their duties.
These roles are critical to the service we provide and require calm decision-making, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Full training is provided, covering our responsibilities during major incidents, the use of our dispatch and national telephone systems, and the management of frontline resources.
As a member of the Control Team, you will be at the heart of our operations, helping to coordinate vital support during emergencies and adverse weather events. The role can be challenging, rewarding, and highly engaging, offering a unique opportunity to make a real difference in your community.
